THE BELLS
In June 1877 a chiming clock was added to the tower, also a peal of six bells were made by Messrs, John Taylor & Co of Loughborough and installed after the tower had been strengthened.
In 1930 the old peal was taken down, re-cast and two other bells added, the total weight is about 30 cwt, and they are made of bronze. The bells are not swung in the traditional way, but struck by hammers actuated by steel wires from a keyboard of levers in the base of the tower. These type of bells are called ‘Carillon’.
In 1938 the choir vestry was built, and the latest addition to the church is the hall which was completed in 1977 and further extended in 1999.
It is interesting to note that in 1966 the church was added to the list of buildings of architectural or historic interest compiled in accordance with the Town and County Planning Acts.
Although Christ Church is of modest size and simple design, it possesses, nevertheless, a dignity and charm unique to itself, and is held in deep affection by all who worship within its walls.
